One of life’s greatest joys is to share with others your unique talents - especially if they serve to help others. There are many ways to do so. We sorely need help planning events in the orphanages/foster homes, and in the youth day centers. We encourage you to join our efforts and become one of our volunteers.

To be a VO “GV” volunteer means to be part of a strong team that pushes and moves ideas boundless distances. By sharing your thoughts, creativity and desire to help others we can create true miracles.

What a great feeling when you can help and are close to those who have contributed at least in some small way. “Gelbekit Vaikus” has completely fulfilled my expectations, granting me the opportunity to work directly with children in local youth centers, and to participate in the organization’s activities. Being a part of a motivated, warm and friendly team has given me one more incentive to participate in the execution of various projects and daily organizational activity.

Like in the old Lithuanian saying, “Grab the problem by the roots - bad people, so that they don’t spread their weeds anywhere else”. Plan a morning social gathering, run out into the street and yell at the passerby’s that their words are strongest and that they don’t need belts for violence, show all the men and women that sharing is a joy, become a secret friend to someone, smile. And all in the name of childhood - so that everyone would have one.

Is there anything better than learning while you teach others? Tolerance, compassion, sincerity, equality, creativity, teamwork - are all personal traits that become important values when one does“Gelbekit Vaikus” organization’s work. As a volunteer I have learned to believe in many things. However, the organization does little to add to faith. It is in itself faith.

These two sentences best elaborate why I have been a VO “Gelbekit Vaikus” volunteer for the last 5 years:

“If you think that you are too small to change the world, try sleeping in a tent with a mosquito” –Anita Roddick “The Body Shop” founder.

,,It is impossible to help others without helping yourself” Steve Anderson

Every time Agne shocks us with her enthusiasm, creativity, and desire to help others- not to mention all the things she has done to organize help for the Paparciu foster home and Ragiveles youth center for children. She organized for  Paparciu home to be visited by Santa Claus with his colorful drummers and a sack-full of presents;  she organized the entire Raguveles youth center to be repainted; picked 800 kg of apples; and have a large pile of firewood cut and stacked. These are only a few of her good deeds. Agne is a good example of the great impact one person can make.

When asked why do I like to help the organization ‘Gelbekit vaikus’ and in general to be active in that sort of work?” I was forced to analyze and think. The reason: I don’t want to leave this world without leaving my footprints and despite these “materialistic” times, I want to show that there are different directions than to accumulate wealth that can be eaten by moths and stolen by thieves. When the time comes for us to leave this world, the material things we acquired will stay, but our accomplishments will wait for us with God. I also think that I want to give a part of myself to others, and the greatest reward to see that someone is inspired by your actions and does the same without prodding. That is probably the greatest blessing. I will probably never have a lot of money, because I am not skiled in acquiring it, yet I have known for a long time that the most good can be made with basically no money at all.

By my work and visits to Paparciu foster home, I would like to raise awareness that to be concerned about social gaps in our country is not only normal but absolutely necessary as it is in all of the civilized world. The greatest joy is when I see the little eyes of children sparkle when I spend my time, attention and love on them - qualities that cost nothing, that everyone has, and is invaluable to the children that suffer from this unfortunate social deficit. I love each hug I get, big or small, just as much as if I was getting it from my own child. Because children are all a part of one planet - they are our children, and it is up to us in which society they will be raised. Are they going to hurt one another - if that is the example we showed them, or are they going to love the planet and its people because we taught them to show compassion and friendship? I have even convinced my friends to join this organization. They do not find it to be a duty but a distinct pleasure which they sorely miss when they don’t come to visit as much. If there were more goodness on this earth, perhaps there would be no abandoned children because every child would have a home.
